About The Program

Grant of Additional Scholarship to ST Students for Higher Studies, Andaman and Nicobar 2024-25 is an initiative of the Directorate Tribal Welfare, Andaman and Nicobar Administration, to ST category students studying in graduation and above level. The objective of the scheme is to provide additional financial assistance to the students pursuing higher education after senior secondary i.e. Class 12. The selected candidates will receive ₹1,000 per month.

To be eligible for this scholarship, an applicant must:- 

  • be a domicile of Andaman and Nicobar Island
  • belong to the Schedule Tribe (ST) category
  • be full-time students pursuing higher studies in any recognised institution by the government, approved by AICTE/UGC, or equivalent bodies, anywhere in the country, such as
    • All courses leading to a graduate degree, e.g. B.A/B.Sc./B.Com. etc. 
    • All postgraduate courses, e.g. M.A/M.Sc./M.Com/M.Ed/M. Pharma., etc. 
    • C.A/I.C.W.A./C.S./I.C.F.A. etc. 
    • M.Phil, Ph.D., and Postdoctoral programs (D.Litt., D.Sc. etc.) 
    • Degree and postgraduate level courses including M.Phil, Ph.D, and postdoctoral research in Medicine (Allopathy, Indian and other recognised systems of medicines), Engineering, Technology, Planning, Architecture, Design, Fashion Technology, Agriculture, Veterinary & Allied Sciences, Management, Business Finance/Administration, Computer Science/Applications, etc. 
    • Postgraduate diploma courses in various branches of Management and Medicine, Commercial Pilot License (including helicopter pilot and multiengine rating) course, etc. 
    • Graduate/Postgraduate courses leading to degree, diploma, or certificate in areas like Pharmacy (B. Pharm), Nursing (B. Nursing), LLB, BFS, other paramedical branches like Rehabilitation Diagnostics, etc., Mass Communication, Hotel Management & Catering, Travel/Tourism/Hospitality Management, Interior Decoration, Nutrition & Dietetics, Commercial Art, Financial Services(e.g. Banking, Insurance, Taxation, etc.) for which minimum educational qualification is senior secondary (Class 12) 
    • All post-matriculation level non-degree courses for which educational qualification is a vocational stream, ITI course, 3-year diploma course in polytechnic, etc.  

Note:-  Students pursuing postgraduate courses in medicine shall be eligible for this scholarship provided they are not allowed to practice during the period of their course. 

The following applicants are ineligible to apply for the scholarship:-

  • Students who, after completing one stage of education, choose to study at the same stage but in a different subject. For example B.Sc after B.A. or B.Com after B.A. or, M.A. in a subject after pursuing an M.A. or its equivalent in another subject, etc.
  • Students who, after having completed their educational career in one professional course and applying for another professional course, eg. LLB after B.T/B.Ed etc.

How can you apply?

Eligible students can apply by following the steps below:-
Step 1: Click on the 'Apply Now' button below. 
Step 2: Click on the 'Register' button and fill in the required registration details. (Note:- If already registered, log in using Gmail/Mobile number/Email ID).
Step 3: Navigate to the 'Students' option on the left-hand side of the dashboard and click on it.
Step 4: Now, click on the 'Login' button under the OTR option as it is required to apply for a scholarship on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP).
Step 5: Click on the 'New user? Register yourself' on the left-hand side of the dashboard and click on it.
Step 6: Read the details carefully, tick the checkbox, and click on the 'Next' button.
Step 7: Enter a functional mobile number, captcha code, and OTP, then submit to complete the registration process.
Step 8: Fill in the required details and click on 'Save & Register' to complete the 'One-time registration (OTR)' process. (Note:- This is a temporary registration number, students need to download the OTR mobile application for face authentication to complete the OTR process.)
Step 9: After successful registration, navigate to the 'Apply for Scholarship' option and click on the 'Login' button.
Step 10: Select the scholarship, fill in the required details, upload the necessary documents and submit.

Note:- All the applicants are advised to fill in the information correctly on the application form.  Once the application is submitted, no changes can be made. Additionally, submitting multiple applications will result in disqualification.

The candidates will be selected based on the fulfilment of the eligibility criteria.

  • The additional scholarship will be payable for ten months in an academic session.
  • The additional scholarship money will be directly released to the bank account of the beneficiaries by the Directorate of Tribal Welfare.
  • If an ST beneficiary pursuing a course fails in the yearly examination for the first time, the scholarship may be renewed. For second and subsequent failures in any class, the student shall bear their expenses until they secure promotion to the next higher class. 
  • Students who fail to clear Bachelor courses in Arts/Science/Commerce for which they had been awarded this additional scholarship, and join any other recognized Professional or Technical certificate/Diploma/ Degree courses will be awarded an additional scholarship if they are otherwise eligible.
  • Students in Class 11 or 12 of Higher Secondary School courses are not eligible for this scholarship as it does not apply to non-higher/professional courses. However, if the Class 10 examination is treated as equivalent to Matriculation and students pursue recognised professional/technical courses after passing Class 10, they will be considered post-matric students and eligible for the additional scholarship.
