National Gallery of Art, Washington invites applications for Andrew W. Mellon Postdoctoral Curatorial Fellowship 2020 from candidates with a doctorate in art history. The aim of this fellowship is to promote research works and creativity of the candidates with a research focus on European and American art, African American art, art of the African diaspora, Latinx art and art history, and Native American art history. Selected fellows will receive an annual salary of USD 59,000, plus research and travel expenses up to USD 5,000 per year.

    Eligibility

    To be eligible, an applicant must:

    • Have a doctoral degree in art history (or the equivalent in countries outside the United States). The doctorate must be or have been officially conferred within five years (preferably three years) of the start date of the fellowship
    • Be working in fields represented by the gallery’s permanent collection of European and American art, African American art, art of the African diaspora, Latinx art and art history, and Native American art history.

Selection Criteria

All applications will be reviewed by a selection committee composed of the National Gallery of Art staff.

Terms and Conditions
  • The fellow must be a resident at the National Gallery of Art during the fellowship period of two years.
  • Interviews of final candidates are tentatively scheduled for mid-November. Only finalists for the Andrew W. Mellon Postdoctoral Curatorial Fellowship will be contacted for interviews.
  • All applications will be reviewed by a selection committee composed of the National Gallery of Art staff.
