Scholarship providers generally award the scholarship in form of direct payment towards education fees, so there lies no chance of return. But there is a substantial group of scholarship providers which award scholarships directly to scholars. Most of the scholarships are non-refundable and in some scholarship guidelines it is even mentioned in the information brochure that students are not allowed to return scholarships, nor would the scholarship provider take back the awards.

Some scholarships keep tracking scholar performance to ensure that students are provided with more financial assistance if required. Such scholarships require scholars to maintain certain academic records to ensure that they receive continued benefits. Such criteria generally include attendance and academic performance requirements. If students fail to keep a certain level of academic commitment, then the scholarships are rescinded either partially or completely.
Also, there are some scholarships which are subject to renewals or awards in installments. Such scholarships also keep academic performance criteria which students might need to follow for receiving continued financial support.

Overall, there is very less number of scholarships which have a return or scholarship halt conditions. But such scholarships generally carry a high award value so the students are obligated to match the performance requirements. Applicants are suggested to get complete information about scholarship award process and scholarship terms and conditions before applying for scholarships.
