Kotak Education Foundation (KEF) - the CSR implementing agency of Kotak Mahindra Group, has announced the launch of the Kotak Junior Scholarship programme to support further education of Class 11+ meritorious students from economically disadvantaged section across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. With this programme, KEF aims to create a strong support system at the grass-root level beyond financial aid to the overall education and development for the future youth of the country.

Under the Kotak Junior Scholarship 2023-24, students enrolled in Class 11 at junior colleges/schools, specifically within the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, will receive a financial assistance of INR 3,000 per month to continue their educational journey.

About Kotak Education Foundation
The establishment of the Kotak Education Foundation (KEF) on January 14, 2007, marked a significant milestone in its mission to combat urban poverty by focusing on education and livelihood initiatives. KEF operates in economically disadvantaged areas of Mumbai, including the Deonar, Govandi Chembur, Kurla, and Dharavi slums. Its core objective is to empower children and young individuals from underprivileged families through a range of educational programs and vocational skills training initiatives. The ultimate goal is to equip them with employable skills and enable them to lead a life of dignity.
KEF's scholarship program caters to meritorious students, offering not only financial assistance but also mentoring and coaching sessions. This comprehensive support aims to guide students who have completed their 10th grade to successfully complete their 12th grade and pursue higher education. Additionally, KEF extends its assistance to school dropouts, providing them with the necessary resources to transcend the poverty line through skill development and livelihood programs.
Working in collaboration with over 140 schools, KEF actively serves a staggering number of individuals. This includes more than 1,500 teachers and approximately one lakh students, showcasing the substantial impact of their educational initiatives.

  • Kotak Junior Scholarship 2023-24

    Eligibility
    • Applicants must have secured above 85% marks in Class 10 board examination (SSC/CBSE/ICSE) in 2023.
    • Applicant’s annual family income must be Rs. 3,20,000/- or less.
    • Applicants must have secured admission in Class 11 at junior colleges/schools in Mumbai for Arts, Commerce and Science Streams, in Mumbai Metropolitan Region* for academic year 2023-24.
    • Children of employees of Kotak Education Foundation and Buddy4Study are not eligible to apply for Kotak Junior Scholarship.
    Benefits:

    Scholarship of INR 3,000 per month 

    Note

    • This scholarship amount will be reimbursed on a quarterly basis.
    • The scholarship fund is designated solely for academic expenses purposes such as tuition fees, books, stationery, travel, and other related educational needs. 
    • The utilization of the fund can be further tailored based on the specific requirements of the Kotak Education Foundation.
    Documents
    • Income certificate (उत्पन्नाचा दाखला) from collector’s office (Either Maharashtra or Indian Govt.) (mandatory)
    • Recent passport-size photograph (mandatory)
    • Aadhaar card of both the parents and student (mandatory)
    • PAN card of at least one earning parent/guardian
    • SSC (Class 10) marksheet - e-copy allowed (mandatory)
    • School leaving certificate
    • If income tax is paid or an IT return is filed by any family member, then the latest copy of the IT return along with 26AS
    • Death certificate in the case of a single parent
    • Student’s bank account (bank statement or first page of bank passbook)

    • Click on the ‘Start Application’ button to begin the application process.
    • Fill in the required details in the online application form.
    • Upload relevant documents.
    • Accept the ‘Terms and Conditions’ and click on ‘Preview’. 
    • If all the details filled in by the applicant are correctly showing on the preview screen, click on the ‘Submit’ button to complete the application process.

  • Q. What is the selection process for ‘Kotak Junior Scholarship 2023-24’?

    The selection of scholars for the Kotak Junior Scholarship 2023-24 will be made on the basis of their academic merit and financial background. It involves a multi-stage process as detailed below - 

    • Shortlisting of candidates based on the eligibility criteria
    • Document verification
    • Telephonic interview of the shortlisted candidates post document verification 
    • Final selection of scholars

    NOTE: The final selection and the awarding of scholarship will be at the discretion of Kotak Education Foundation.

  • Q. If selected, how will I get the scholarship amount?

    The scholarship amount will be transferred to the scholars' bank accounts on a quarterly basis during the first year of the program. In the second year, the scholarship will be transferred on a half-yearly basis.

  • Q. I am a Class 11 student studying in New Delhi. Can I apply for this scholarship?

    No, you cannot apply for this scholarship. Only candidates enrolled in Class 11 at junior colleges/schools, specifically within the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, are eligible.

  • Q. I am currently a Class 12 student in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. Am I eligible for this scholarship?

    No, you do not meet the eligibility criteria for this scholarship. It is exclusively open to candidates who have achieved a score of over 85% in their Class 10 examination in 2023 and subsequently enrolled in the 11th grade at junior colleges/schools within the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

  • Q. Will I get this scholarship for subsequent years of my studies?

    Yes. The scholarship support will be extended to the selected students throughout their journey until the completion of their Class 12. However, for the scholarship renewal in the successive years, the scholars must fulfil the following renewal criteria: 

    • No dropout from regular academic sessions (Proof of continuity and promotion in next year is required to be submitted) 
    • No disciplinary issues
    • Students should obtain more than 70% marks in Class 11 for renewal of scholarship.
    • The renewal of the scholarship every year will be at the sole discretion of Kotak Education Foundation.
