France – the land of food, fashion and fine art – is also famous for being an education hub. Cities like Paris and Lyon are renowned for their world class education institutions that attract international students by the drove, and are known to be extremely student-friendly, with scholarships to study in France, student discounts and affordable housing for students available readily.
Luckily for Indian students, there are a few scholarships to study in France. These scholarship programs are offered by the French Embassy and are named after the renowned physicist, Georges Charpak, who was part of the French Resistance in World War II, and was later awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics for his contributions to Nuclear Physics.

The scholarship is open to Indian residents under the age of 30 years who are pursuing their Masters in France in any stream or field of study. The scholarship provides a visa fee waiver for the selected candidates, along with a monthly living allowance and medical insurance. The candidates are selected based on their academic achievements and the submitted Statement of Purpose.
This scholarship is for Indian residents who are accepted to a French Laboratory for training and research. The candidates must belong to an economics, natural science or engineering background and be less than 30 years of age. The award covers a visa fee waiver, medical insurance, and help in securing accommodation, apart from a monthly stipend of 310 Euros.
For those Indian students currently enrolled in an Indian educational institution that has a tie-up with a French Institute, the Charpak Exchange Program is an attractive proposition. The Exchange Program is open to students of all streams and fields of study who are under the age of 30 years at the time of application. The Scholarship covers a full waiver of the tuition and visa fees, medical insurance, as well as a monthly stipend of 615 Euros for the 4-month duration of the program.
This Fellowship program has been launched to foster a strong relationship between India and France in the field of Science & Technology, and has been named after two great Nobel Laureates in Physics from India and France, respectively. Any student under the age of 30 years and pursuing a Ph.D in Atmospheric and Earth Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Engineering Sciences, Life and Medical Sciences, Materials Science, Mathematical and Computational Sciences, Physical Sciences, or Environmental Sciences can apply for this Fellowship. The program covers the candidate’s travel, accommodation, visa, insurance and airfare, apart from providing a monthly stipend of 1500 Euros.
