Maharashtra Scholarship: Government Scholarships for Students of Maharashtra 2018-19 (Updated)

Ever since the introduction and adoption of the DBT or Direct Bank Transfer scheme by the state governments, there is a surge in the number of scholarships offered. Maharashtra already boasts of fantastic numbers when it comes to scholars under the Maharashtra Scholarship category. Currently, the state offers more than 40 schemes shortlisted from 5 departments where benefits are directly transferred to the beneficiaries account:

    1. Higher and Technical Education
    2. Social Justice & Special Assistance
    3. Tribal Development
    4. Minorities Development
    5. School Education & Sports

MahaDBT, Government of Maharashtra (for Maharashtra Scholarship)

All these scholarship are now disbursed via the Maharashtra State Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) and Services portal. This portal is intended to pass on all the benefits of the Maharashtra scholarship schemes listed for students and offered by various departments of the state. Going forward, the Government of Maharashtra intends to onboard more than 300 such schemes for the welfare of students, a large chunk of this would fall under the Maharashtra Scholarship category.

Here are some of the most popular government scholarships for students of Maharashtra:

Award of Scholarship to Backward Class Students In High Schools 2017, Maharashtra

Eligibility Criteria:

      • Student must belong to SC community
      • Students must have obtained minimum 50% marks in their last annual examination
      • Backward class student studying in class 5-10

Award:

      • INR 50 per month for 10 months to class 5 to 7 students
      • INR 100 per month 10 months to class 8 to 10 students

Scholarship of Special Education & Vocational Training to Disabled, Maharashtra

Eligibility Criteria:

      • Be a domicile of Maharashtra
      • Be a visually impaired, orthopedically handicapped or hearing impaired student
      • Have minimum disability of 40 percent
      • Between 6-18 years of age (for special education) or 18 years and above (for vocational training)

Award:

      • Free education access in a suitable environment until the age of 18 years
      • After completion of 18 years special children will be provided with vocational training that covers free facilities of shelter, food, education, and clothing

Tuition Fees and Examination Fees to VJNT Students (Means Based), Maharashtra

Eligibility Criteria:

      • Belongs to VJNT category
      • Annual income between INR 1- 4.5 lakhs

Award:

      • Tuition fees, Examination Fees and other fees will be reimbursed to the concern college/institution

Government of India Post-Matric Scholarship 2017

Eligibility Criteria:

      • Student must have passed Class 10
      • Annual family income should not exceed INR 2 Lac – SC
      • Annual family income should not exceed INR 1 Lac – OBC
      • Annual family income should not exceed INR 1 Lac – SBC
      • Annual family income should not exceed INR 1 Lac – VJNT
      • Student must be domicile of Maharashtra state

Award:

      • Scheduled Castes including Nav Buddha students – INR 230 p.m. to INR 550 p.m. for boys and girls (Day Scholars) and INR 380 p.m. to INR 1200 p.m. for boys and girls (Hostellers)
      • OBC students – INR 90 to INR 190 Per Month (Day Scholars) and INR 150 to INR 425 per month (Hostellers)
      • SBC students – INR 90 to INR 190 Per Month (Day Scholars) and INR 150 to INR 425 per month (Hostellers)
      • VJNT students – INR 90 to INR 190 Per Month (Day Scholars) and INR 150 to INR 425 per month (Hostellers)

Pre Upper Primary and Pre Secondary Scholarship, Maharashtra

Eligibility Criteria:

      • Students from class 6-8 basis the competitive exam conducted by the Maharashtra State Council of Examinations Pune every year

Award:

      • If set-ABCD then HSS-300
      • If set-E then MSS-500 and HSS-750
      • If set-FGHI then MSS-250 and HSS-400
      • If set-JK then MSS-1000 and HSS-1500
      • If set-K then MSS-1000 and HSS-1500

Post Matric Scholarship to OBC Students, Maharashtra

Eligibility Criteria:

      • Annual family income less than INR 1 lakh p.a.
      • Student belongs to OBC category
      • Students not getting any other scholarship/stipend

Award:

      • Hosteller: Maintenance allowance of INR 90 – 190 p.m.
      • Day scholar: Maintenance allowance of INR 150 – 425 p.m.

Post-matric Scholarship for Disabled, Maharashtra

Eligibility Criteria:

      • Domicile of Maharashtra
      • Studying in Class 11 to Post Graduation
      • Minimum 40 percent of disability.
      • Have passed in previous class

Award:

      • Maintenance Allowance:
        • Group A (Degree course in Medical, Engineering, Agricultural, Veterinary and postgraduate degree course)
          • INR 1200 for hostellers and INR 550 for day scholar (per month)
        • Group B (Diploma course in Medical, Engineering, Agricultural, Veterinary)
          • INR 820 for hostellers and INR 530 for day scholar (per month)
        • Group C (Post Graduate course in Arts, Science, Commerce and Diploma in professional education)
          • INR 820 for hostellers and INR 530 for day scholar (per month)
        • Group D (From second-year degree course)
          • INR 570 for hostellers and INR 300 for day scholar (per month)
        • Group E (11th, 10th and 1st year of Degree Course)
          • INR 380 for hostellers and INR 230 for day scholar (per month)
        • Reader allowance for low vision and blind students:
          • Group A, B and C – INR 100 per month
          • Group D – INR 75 per month
          • Group E – INR 50 per month
        • Study tour expenditure – up to INR 500 per annum
        • Project typing expenditure – up to INR 600 per annum
        • Tuition fees – as approved by competent authority

Rajarshi Shahu Maharaj Merit Scholarship to SC Students , Maharashtra

Eligibility Criteria:

      • Scheduled caste students
      • 75% marks or more in the S.S.C. Examination

Award:

      • INR 300 per month for 10 months for two years i.e. in Class 11 and Class 12

Book Bank for SC Students, Maharashtra

Eligibility Criteria:

      • Belong to Scheduled Caste.
      • Has taken admission in Engineering, Medical, Law, Agriculture, and Veterinary courses

Award:

      • Medical and Engineering students – 1 set of books for 2 students along with INR 7500
      • Agriculture students – 1 set of books for 2 students along with INR 4500
      • Veterinary students – 1 set of books for 2 students along with INR 5000
      • Post Graduate students in medical, engineering, veterinary and agriculture – 1 set for 1 student along with INR 5000

Rajarshi Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj Shikshan Shulk Shishyavrutti Yojna

Eligibility Criteria:

      • Must be admitted through CAP [Centralised Admission process] of State CET Cell of Maharashtra State
      • Must be a domicile of Maharashtra
      • Family income must be less than or equal to INR 2.5 lac
      • Must have obtained more than 60%

Award:

      • 50% tuition fees

Professional Technical Training to Scheduled Caste Students, Maharashtra

Eligibility Criteria:

      • Belong to Scheduled Caste
      • Minimum Class 4th passed student

Award:

      • INR 100 per month as scholarship amount and a tool kit
      • Free training in ITI

Pre-matric Scholarship for Disabled, Maharashtra

Eligibility Criteria:

      • Domicile of Maharashtra
      • Studying in Class 1-10
      • Minimum 40 percent of disability

Award:

      • Class 1 to 4: INR 100 p.m.
      • Class 5 to 7: INR 150 p.m.
      • Class 8 to 10: INR 200 p.m.
      • Mentally retarded and mentally ill up to the age of 18 years: INR 150 p.m.
      • For disabled trainees in a workshop: INR 300 p.m.

Government of India Scholarship in Secondary School Sanskrit Scholarship, Maharashtra

Eligibility Criteria:

      • Students of Class 9th to 12th studying Sanskrit as one of the subjects

Award:

      • For Class IX: INR 100 per month (For 10 months)
      • For Class X: INR 100 per month (For 12 months)
      • For Class XI: INR 125 per month (For 10 months)
      • For Class XII: INR 125 per month (For 12 months)

Rajarshi Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj Merit Scholarship, Maharashtra

Eligibility Criteria:

      • From Vimukta Jatis, Nomadic Tribes or Special Backward Class
      • Studying in Class 11th or 12th
      • Secured 75% and above marks in Class 10th exam

Award:

      • INR 300 per month for 10 months

Post-Matric Scholarship to VJNT Students, Maharashtra

Eligibility Criteria:

      • Annual family income not more than INR 1 lakh
      • Not be engaged in full-time employment
      • Not be a repeater for that standard
      • Not accept another scholarship/stipend after availing this scheme

Award:

      • INR 90 to INR 190 maintenance allowance per month to eligible VJNT students who live in hostels \
      • INR 150 to INR 425 per month to VJNT day scholar students

Open Merit Scholarships in Junior College, Maharashtra

Eligibility Criteria:

      • Be studying in Class 11 or 12.
      • Have secured a minimum of 60 percent marks in the SSC examination.

Award:

      • INR 50 per month for 10 months

Open Merit Scholarships for EBC Students, Maharashtra

Eligibility Criteria:

      • Passed SSC Examination with at least 50% marks in single attempt
      • Annual family income less than INR 30,000 from all sources

Award:

      • Hosteller boys – INR 140 per month for 10 months
      • Non-hosteller boys – INR 80 per month for 10 months
      • Hosteller girls – INR 160 per month for 10 months
      • Non-hosteller girls – INR 100 per month for 10 months

State Government Open Merit Scholarship, Maharashtra

Eligibility Criteria:

      • Be a resident of Maharashtra
      • Obtained at least 60% marks in Class 12th examination
      • Taken admission in arts, science, commerce or law graduate program

Award:

      • Fresh applicants – INR 1000 per annum in the month of March
      • Renewal – INR 1200 per annum in the month of March

Scholarship to Meritorious Students Possessing Mathematics/Physics, Maharashtra

Eligibility Criteria:

      • Be a resident of Maharashtra
      • Admitted in graduation in Science with Maths or Physics as the main subject
      • Secured at least 60% in class 12th examination
      • Secured at least 60% in Science examination and 60% in Maths and Physics

Award:

      • Fresh applicant – INR 1000 in the month of March
      • Renewal, the candidate will get INR 1200 in the month of March

Eklavya Scholarship, Maharashtra

Eligibility Criteria:

      • Be a resident of Maharashtra.
      • Obtained at least 60% marks in a graduate program in Arts, Commerce and Law and 70% marks in graduation in Science
      • Taken admission in a postgraduate program
      • Annual family income less than INR 75,000 from all sources
      • Not working either full-time or part-time

Award:

      • INR 5000
