About The Program

Department of Science and Technology (DST), Govt of India invites applications for Women Scientists Scheme (WOS-A) 2017-18 from women scientists and technologists who are in between the age group of 27-57 years. This is specially meant for women who are having a break in their career because of motherhood and family responsibilities and are having difficulty in being employed anywhere.  

EligibilityDeadline Date: Closed
  • Only for women candidates.
  • Age between 27 to 57 years.
  • Women scientists having a PhD in Basic or Applied Sciences B.Tech, M.Sc, MBBS, M.Tech, MD, MS, DM, MCH in Medical Sciences from recognised universities.
  • Age relaxation of 5 years would be given to candidates belonging to SC, ST, OBC and physically challenged category.
How can you apply?

The application can be submitted online with following steps:

Step 1: Read all the details given on the website.

Step 2: On the right side of the screen, there is an option of Online Submission System.

Step 3: Click on the 'Submit PES Here', use only first and the last name for registering.

Step 4: Log in Id and password will be intimated through email.

Step 5: Fill all the Personal Details as your name, correspondence address, etc.

Step 6: In the next step, fill Highest Educational Qualification Details.

Step 7: In the last step, fill your Proposal Details as what is the title, duration, etc.

Step 8: After completely filling the application form, click on submit button.

Terms and Conditions

Fellows will get monthly stipend INR 30,000 to INR 55,000 and research grant up to INR 30,00,000.

Scientific Disciplines in which one can apply are Physical and Mathematical Sciences [PMS], Chemical Sciences [CS], Life Sciences [LS], Earth and Atmospheric Sciences [EAS], Engineering & Technology [ET].

Q. What is WOS-A?

Women Scientist Scheme-A is meant to encourage women candidates, preferably those having a break in career and not having regular employment to pursue research in Science and Engineering.

Q. What is the WOS-A DST's Scheme for Women Scientists?
A.
All the schemes are entirely different in their mandate. Under WOS-A financial support is available for pure R&D work in Basic & Applied Sciences.

Q. In which subject R&D support is available in WOS-A?
A.
In Five streams i.e, Physical and mathematical science, chemical science, life science, earth & Atmosphere science, and engineering services.

Q. What is the duration of fellowship/financial support under WOS-A Scheme?
A.
The financial support is available for three years in WS-A scheme.

Q. What is the minimum qualification for applying under WOS-A?
A.
In the first category, candidate must be M.SC in basic or applied sciences or equivalent (i.e B.Tech/B.Pharm, etc) and the second category includes PhD in basic and applied sciences or equivalent (i.e M.Tech/MBBS/MPharm, etc)

Q. What is the age limit for WOS-A?
A.
The minimum age for applying under WOS-A is 27 years and maximum age for MSC or equivalent is 35 Years and for PhD and equivalent is 50 years.
