Details:-
ELIGIBILITY: Class XIth, Polytechnic and Above students (2012 Batch)
Applications are being invited for awarding scholarship for the year 2012-2013 under
“West Bengal Government Merit-cum-Means Scholarship Scheme” introduced for providing
financial assistance to the poor and meritorious students of West Bengal pursuing higher studies.
The students of post-Madhyamik levels in regular courses who are domiciled in West Bengal and
studying in one of the educational institutions of this State after passing out from the State
Board/Council of Secondary/Higher Secondary Education and Madrasah Siksha Parishad or a
University of West Bengal, set up by State Act, whose annual family income is Rs.80,000/- or less
may apply for this scholarship provided their educational qualifications are as follows :
1) For Scholarships at Higher Secondary level (@ Rs.500/- p.m.)
At least 75% in aggregate in Madhyamik Pariksha or its equivalent as stated above
excluding optional elective subject. Students who are enrolled in Class-XI on passing the
Madhyamik Pariksha or its equivalent examination in 2012 will be eligible to apply.
2)For the Under Graduate level scholarships (@ Rs.750/- to Rs.1500/- p.m.)
Candidates must obtain at least 75% marks, consisting of two language subjects and three
best elective subjects. Students who are enrolled in the first year of Under Graduate Course after
passing the H.S. Examination or its equivalent as stated above in 2012 will be eligible to apply.
3) For scholarships at Diploma (Polytechnic) level (@ Rs. 750/- p.m.)
Students who are enrolled after passing-out in Secondary (M.P.) Examination or its equivalent as
stated above in 2012 for first year Diploma (Polytechnic) courses [H.S. Examination or its
Equivalent for Diploma in Pharmacy or Modern Office Practice & Management of 2 year duration ]
and after passing-out in ‘West Bengal State Council of Vocational Education & Training’ courses
which is equivalent to H.S. Examination for 2ndyear Diploma (Polytechnic) courses on lateral
entry basis will be eligible to apply. Candidates must obtain at least 75% marks in aggregate
[excluding the marks secured in the optional elective subject, if any]
4) For the Post-Graduate level scholarships (@Rs.1200/- to Rs.1400/- p.m.).
At least 55% marks in Honours subjects at the Graduation level. Students who are
enrolled in the first year class of Post Graduate Course in general education after passing the
Graduation with Honours in 2012 will be eligible to apply.
Different categories of applicants will submit their applications to different offices as
mentioned hereunder:
i) Class-XI students - Directorate of School Education, W.B., (Training & Examination Cell),
Bikash Bhavan, 7thfloor, Salt Lake, Kolkata-700091.
ii) The 1s tyear students of UG and PG Courses in general education (Arts, Commerce and
Science) and other professional courses approved by UGC, excluding Engineering &
Medical – Directorate of Public Instruction, W.B., Scholarship & Stipend Section, Bikash
Bhavan, 9thfloor, North Wing, Salt Lake, Kolkata-700091.
iii) The student pursuing 1s tyear or 2ndyear Polytechnic Diploma Course after passing
Madhyamik Pariksha/Higher Secondary or its equivalent examination - Directorate of
Technical Education & Training, West Bengal, Bikash Bhavan, 10thfloor, East Wing (North),
Salt Lake, Kolkata-700091.
iv) The 1s tyear UG and PG courses (Engineering & Technology) and other professional
Engineering courses of equivalent stature approved by AICTE - Directorate of Technical
Education, West Bengal, Bikash Bhavan, 10thfloor, East Wing(South), Salt Lake, Kolkata-
700091.
v) The 1s tyear UG (Medical) courses like MBBS, BDS, BHMS, BAMS and UG Nursing -
Directorate of Medical Education West Bengal, ‘Swasthya Bhavan’, Sector-V, Salt Lake,
Kolkata-700091.
Detailed particulars of the “West Bengal Government Merit-cum-Means Scholarship
Scheme” along with proforma of Application Form, Model Proforma for Income Affidavit and
Income Certificate may be available from the abovementioned Government offices and the
following websites :-
Applications (hand written or typed) in the prescribed proforma alongwith requisite enclosures (e.g. certificates, declaration etc.) are to be submitted in envelopes to the offices mentioned above within the due date. The words, “Application for West Bengal Government Merit-cum-Means Scholarship Scheme for pursuing …………….*Course of studies” is to be clearlywritten on the envelope.
*(the name of the course in which admission taken during the academic year 2012-2013 is to be mentioned)
Duly completed applications alongwith requisite enclosures and a recent passport sized and signed photograph properly affixed on the application form must reach / be submitted to the Government Offices mentioned above by the 30thNovember, 2012. It may be noted here that duly filled in and completed applications will only be considered for awarding Scholarships. Level- wise number of awardees will be selected considering both merit and means of the applicants from the valid applications received within the last date of receiving applications. Applications received after the last date of submission will be summarily rejected without showing any reason.
N. B.
1. Candidates opting for these scholarships and found eligible,will not be allowed to enjoy any other Governmental (Central/State) scholarship or stipend for the same course / stage of study.However, one time grant or assistance received from any source, or free or partly free-studentship allowed by the host institutions will not debar the students from availing of the benefits of the Scheme.
In case of suppression of fact of getting double scholarships from the Government Authorit ies for the same course of study the scholarships granted shall be cancelled automatically and the scholarships payee shall be asked to refund the amount at once.
2.For renewal of scholarship, application with “continuity Certificate” from the head of the educational institution must be deposited to the concerned scholarship sanctioning authority within one month from the date of his/her admission in the next higher class due to promotion by passing in the first attempt.
