About The Program

The Climate Action Challenge 2018 is a global design competition inviting the creative community to submit bold, innovative solutions to prevent the impacts of climate change. This challenge contest is an initiative of the What Design Can Do (WDCD) and its main partners, IKEA Foundation and Autodesk Foundation and any one who is interested in climate crisis can participate. The winners will share an award package worth €900.

Entrepreneur; start-ups with at least a prototype having market traction looking to further build, validate and scale their business and find the best international product/market fit.

How can you apply?

The application can be done online only by following these steps:

Step 3: A verification link will be sent to the registered email id, click to verify the account.

Step 4: Log in and start filling the form.

Terms and Conditions

Entries will be judged by experts according to the following criteria:

  1. Relevance- How much the idea is relevant?
  2. Impact- What is the impact of the idea?
  3. Feasibility- Is the idea is feasible ie technically, economically, politically, legally, socially, culturally and psychologically fit?
  4. Scalability- Whether the idea has the potential to be scaled up to benefit the many?
  5. Excitement- Is the idea exciting or is it new and creative having a great story to share?
  6. Commitment- Commitment to develop the idea by a well-balanced and highly committed team or will assemble a group of people who can help develop the idea further.

  • Monday 25 Sept: Start online selection for shortlist
  • Monday 9 Oct: Live session to establish shortlist
  • Tuesday 17 Oct: Shortlist announced
  • Saturday 21 Oct – Sat 28 Oct: Shortlisted projects are exhibited at Dutch Design Week
  • Tuesday 7 Nov: Start online judging winners
  • Monday 20 Nov: Live jury selection winners in São Paulo
  • Wednesday 22 Nov: Presentation winners at WDCD Live São Paulo
  • Monday 11 Dec – Fri 15: Dec Accelerator Bootcamp for winners

Q. What can you win?

A. There are three separate tracks and awards for students, creative professionals and start-ups. The winners, selected and valued by an international jury, share an award package worth €900.000 which includes a production budget and a tailor-made acceleration programme aimed at making the winning ideas, prototypes or start-ups investment ready.
