About The Program

The India Observatory, London School of Economics & Political Science (LSE) invites applications for the Subir Chowdhury Post-doctoral Fellowship on Quality and Economics. The Fellowship is supported by the Subir and Malini Chowdhury Foundation. Applicants should be early career researchers working on economic impact of poor quality.

About the Fellowship

The Subir Chowdhury Post-doctoral Fellowship on Quality and Economics will be for a period of three months in the 2016-17 academic year and will be based at the India Observatory at the LSE. The Fellow will be expected to engage in research examining the economic impact of poor quality on the economies of South Asia, prioritising but not restricted to, India and Bangladesh. The main objective of this programme is to examine the links between quality and economics.

The Fellow will receive a monthly subsistence allowance of up to £1,750 a month, and will also be provided with shared work space and access to research facilities at the School. Assistance will also be provided towards the cost of travel and research materials.

The Fellowship allows for any scholar to participate in the programme regardless of ethnicity or national origin.

The Fellow will be expected to finish a piece of research of publishable quality during their stay and make a presentation at a seminar or lecture arranged by the India Observatory.

Applicants should have completed a PhD - the Fellowship is not intended for students registered for a degree or diploma, nor is it intended for senior academics.

  • a cover letter of no more than one page
  • a curriculum vitae of no more than three pages
  • an outline of proposed research of no more than three pages
  • names and addresses of two referees, familiar with their work, to be contacted by the Committee

The final date for receipt of applications is Monday 9th May 2016. Late applications will not be accepted. The successful candidate will be informed of the decision by the end of July 2016.
