Shell Ideas360 is more than a global competition that connects students to develop ideas to tackle the pressures on the world’s Food, Water and Energy resources. It’s an exciting journey of learning and discovery. Collaborate with like-minded innovators, Shell experts and mentors to expand your horizons.

Register and join the online community to connect with students from around the world, create a team and start developing your idea for Shell Ideas360 2015/2016.

Stage 1: Formulate


Register online – Explorer the online community – Introductory Google Hangouts

Register and set up your personal profile. You can enter as an individual or as part of a team of up to three people.

You can submit your idea, access Google Hangouts and explore online communities to shape your idea before submission.


Stage 2: Develop

Selected ideas will have access to:

  • A designated mentor
  • Expert Google Hangouts – support to further develop your idea, Leadership & business skills training to enhance your career

Stage 3: Pitch

Finalist teams receive:

  • A trip to the UK
  • 3 days intensive coaching
  • Opportunity to pitch ideas to senior Shell executives, innovators and industry leaders

Refine your skills

Make your idea pitch perfect with coaching , insight and support from senior Shell experts and gain exclusive access to Shell Eco Marathon and Powering Progress Together forum in United Kingdom.


a) Subject to Paragraphs 3(b) and 3(c) below and the other provisions of these Terms and Conditions, participation in the Competition is open to any person who (i) is, or will be, the higher of 18 years of age or the age of majority in the Participant’s relevant jurisdiction of residency by 01/12/2015; and (ii) is currently studying (and is officially registered to continue studying until at least 01/12/2015) as a full time or part time undergraduate or postgraduate, excluding those studying for Phd or MPhil degrees, at one of the recognised, degree awarding universities or other equivalent higher education establishments set out on the World Higher Education Database(an "Eligible Student").

b) Residents of the Province of Quebec, Canada are not eligible to participate in this competition.

c) Current employees, past employees, apprentices, trainees, interns, agents, officers or directors of the Promoter and its affiliates (including joint ventures) are not eligible to participate in the Competition.

d) For the avoidance of doubt, Eligible Students who are in the process of being recruited for a job, apprenticeship, traineeship, or internship by the Promoter or any of its affiliates (including joint ventures) will be automatically disqualified if their employment, apprenticeship, traineeship or internship commences any time during the Competition Period.

e) The Competition is not open to employees, agents, affiliates, officers or directors of any advertiser, promotion agency or fulfilment agency of the Promoter or of anyone else professionally connected with the Competition.

f) Eligible Students are not entitled to enter the Competition if they are resident in a country or jurisdiction where the Competition may breach any law or regulation. Where this applies, the Promoter’s invitation to enter the Competition in such country/jurisdiction is withdrawn.

Shell Ideas360 is a global competition for students to develop an idea that tackle the challenges on food, water and energy resources.

Students can submit an idea and be in with a chance to win a National Geographic Adventure of their choice!

Register and receive updates, newsletters and connect with like minded innovators and this years participants in our online community.


Stage 1

Each member of a team that submits and idea receives a 3-month subscription to WIRED’s interactive digital edition (accessible on iPad, iPhone and Kindle Fire) and certificate of completion.

Stage 2

Each member of a team that submits and idea receives a subscription to National Geographic Magazine and certificate of completion.

Stage 3

Each member of the five finalist teams will receive a trip to the UK, a personalized medal and certificate of completion.

Winners: Each team member will receive a National Geographic Adventure of their choice and a trophy.



Shell is an internationally known and respected organisation and taking part will be a great addition to any student’s résumé/CV.


Every team in Stage 2 will be assigned a Shell Mentor to help them develop their idea. In addition they will have access to some of Shell’s renowned Subject Matter Experts.


Interact with fellow students from around the world via our online community. Meet industry leaders, business innovators and other students from around the world at the final event in Rotterdam.


Access coaching and Google Hangouts to develop your idea that could change the world; be part of a global community of like-minded innovators and refine your skills to help prepare you for an exciting and fulfilling career.


This is your chance to develop that idea that you’ve been thinking about for ages with industry support, or to apply your studies to a practical, real-world problem.

All ideas submitted to Shell Ideas360 have the chance to be considered by GameChanger, our innovation incubator.
And with the connections made through the journey, ideas in the competition have received interest from external industry backers too.
