What is On the Spot Essay Writing Competition 2017?

On the Spot Essay Writing Competition 2017 objective is to provide an opportunity to the postgraduate students of statistics to participate in the essay competition in which two topics of an essay would be given on the spot. The Essay should be written on one of the topics in about 5000 words in the prescribed time limit of three hours. The essays will be evaluated by a committee constituted by MoSPI on the basis of contents, originality of ideas, Sequence of presentation and writing skills. Winners will be published on ministry’s website and also be notified in writing and awarded cash up to Rs 15000.

Who can apply for this scholarship ?

Post Graduate students of Statistics are eligible to apply.

How can you apply ?

Application can be done by post with the following steps:

Step 2: Now send through the Head of the Department of the College/University/Institute and submit the same to the address:

Terms and Conditions

Details of the competition:

  • Two topics of an essay would be given on the spot. The Essay should be written on one of the topics in about 5000 words in the prescribed time limit of three hours.
  • Each student will be requested through a separate communication to appear for the competition at the designated center or at the nearest Regional Office or Sub-Regional Office of National Sample Survey Office for writing the essay. The list of the Regional/Sub-Regional Offices may be seen on the Ministry’s Office may be mentioned in the application form. The Ministry reserves the right to allot a center other than opted by the candidate.
  • The essays will be evaluated by a Committee constituted by MoSPI on the basis of contents, originality of ideas, Sequence of presentation and writing skills. Names of winners will be published
  • on ministry’s website. The winners will also be notified in writing.
  • A number of prizes are:

One First Prize: Rs 15000
Two Second Prizes: Rs 12000 (each)
Three Third Prizes: Rs 10000 (each)
Five Consolation prizes: Rs 5000 (each)
