About The Program

The Sexualities Project at Northwestern (SPAN) has invited applications for the two-year post-doctoral fellowships in sexuality studies. The duration of the fellowship will be of two years and the researchers who study sexuality from a social science perspective (broadly construed) are eligible for this scholarship.

In order to be eligible, an applicant must-

  • Have a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, not before September 1, 2013.
  • Have relevant expertise in both sexuality studies and one of the departments mentioned below-
    • African-American Studies, Anthropology, Communication Studies, History, Human Development and Social Policy, Linguistics, Performance Studies, Political Science, Religious Studies, or Sociology. 

Note- Those applicants who do not have their Ph.D. degree or equivalent needs to complete all the requirements for the degree before September 1, 2018.

Terms and Conditions

Important Information-

  •  The fellowship will be of two years and it will start from September 1, 2018, and continues till August 31, 2020.
  • After the submission of application form, the references will get the submission instruction for submitting the recommendation. The deadline for submission of the letter of recommendation is  January 12, 2018.

Award details-
The fellows will get-

  • An amount of USD 58,500 as a stipend in the first year of fellowship.
  • An amount of USD 3,500 per year for conference travel and fund research.
  • An amount up to USD 1,500 for allowable relocation expenses in the first year.
  • An amount up to USD 1,000 for allowable travel expenses for an area visit prior to the start of the postdoc term.

Q. My Ph.D. is not from a social science department. Am I still eligible?
A. Yes, but it’s your responsibility to make clear how you rely in a substantial way on social science theories and/or methods in studying sexuality.
Q. I got my degree x years ago. Do I still qualify?
A. As stated above, you must have completed your Ph.D. (or equivalent doctoral degree) after September 1, 2013, in order to be eligible.
