The Natural Capital Olympiad aims to inculcate the habit of assimilating, learning and creating an appreciation for nature among the young generation. The Olympiad will cover topics like Plant life, Animal life, Environmental issues like Global warming and Climate change and have a section on our forests, sanctuaries and the parks of the country. The Olympiad does so in a in a manner that encourages the children to think, assimilate and logically reason as they attempt the questions as opposed to mugging up facts and meritorious students will be honoured with scholarships to encourage them further, along with certificates and media coverage.

School Prerequisites

Enrolling schools must be of either English or Hindi medium schools. The schools under CBSE, ICSE, IB and all state boards are welcome to enroll for the Olympiad. A minimum of 10 students must take part. 

Student Prerequisites

Each participant must be from class 3 – class 10 only, and of a school registered for the Natural Capital Olympiad.

Participation Process

Students willing to participate must register online through their schools after paying a sum of Rs. 100/- as participation fee.

Syllabus/Recommended reading

Students may refer to NCERT and other boards certified textbooks while preparing for the Olympiad. The Olympiad itself also offers a reference book for students enrolling for the Olympiad. We also encourage them to keep abreast with current affairs and general knowledge related to plant life, animal life, environmental issues like global warming and climate change, as well as our forests, sanctuaries and the parks of the country and important people part of the global conservation movement. 

Reference Material

Students wishing to purchase the reference material may do so by submitting a sum of Rs. 100/- and it will be delivered to the school. The same may also be bought from the website at www.naturalcaptialolympiad.com/online-store.html

    What is the Natural Capital Olympiad?
    The Natural Capital Olympiad is an initiative of Saevus and YES BANK, attempting to help make the children of today more environmentally conscious, for they are the leaders and decision makers of tomorrow – and thus crucial to sustain and improve on ongoing conservation efforts across the country and the globe. 

    Why should I take this test?
    The Natural Capital Olympiad gives you the opportunity to become aware of nature and the environment. It is a test that doesn't really encourage mugging as it emphasises on the logical application of a knowledge base. Exemplary students will even be awarded with cash prizes, certificates of merit.

    What are the eligibility criteria to participate in the Olympiad?
    To be able to register, your school must be an English or Hindi medium school affiliated to CBSE, ICSE, IB or any state board. Once registered, the school will enroll you. You have to be a student of Class III – X of a registered school to participate. 

    I am from a Hindi medium school. Can I also participate in the Natural Capital Olympiad?
    Yes you can! The Natural Capital Olympiad is open to schools of both English and Hindi medium, and the question papers and reference material will also be printed in both languages. 

    I am from a school not located in India. Can I participate?
    If your school is an English/Hindi medium school, you can! Ask your Principal to register with us and enroll interested students. 

    How can my school register?
    Schools can register for the Olympiad by Schools interested in participating may register online atwww.naturalcapitalolympiad.com send an e-mail to olympiad@saevus.in or contact 022 – 25708580 to receive their registration forms. Completed registration forms must reach us by 15th September 2014. Once successfully registered, your school will then send us the names of the students interested, and we will enroll them. 

    Can I register as an individual?
    Unfortunately, individual registrations will not be processed. Only students from registered schools can enroll via their school. Contact your school Principal to register your school for the Olympiad. 

    What is the format of the Olympiad?
    The first round of the Olympiad will be at the school level. All questions will be in a multiple choice format – attempted on OMR sheets. There will be a total of 40 questions of one- two marks each and you'll be given 60 minutes to finish the test. There will be no negative marking. 

    The questions will fall under six categories:

    1. Flora (Entire plant life, forests, national parks, sanctuaries etc.) – 8 questions
    2. Fauna (Animal Kingdom, wildlife) – 8 questions
    3. Terra (Environment, communities, geographic perspective) – 4 questions
    4. Aqua (Marine life, oceans, water bodies, etc.) – 4 questions
    5. Mental Aptitude – 4 questions
    6. General Awareness – 4 questions


    For the second round, a common centre will be decided at each region and if you are selected, you will be invited along with their parents for the second round – the format for which will be notified to the selected students.

    National winners from round two will then be invited for a National Event for the felicitation.

    Are all the questions of the same weightage?
    No, there will be a combination of one mark and two mark question. The same will be clearly indicated in the question paper. 

    Are there any sample questions?
    Yes there are! Take a look at our website www.naturalcapitalolympiad.com, and you'll find five sample questions per class! 

    Is there any recommended reading to prepare for the exam?
    We suggest you consult textbooks issued by the NCERT and other boards, and read up on similar topics from other trusted sources. You could also purchase the Olympiad issued reference book to help you get an idea of the test. 

    What are the important dates with respect to the Olympiad?
    The following is a list of the important dates: 

    1. Last date of registration - 31st October 2014 
    2. Date of the Olympiad - 19th November 2014 & 10th December 2014
    3. Result declaration - 20th December 2014 


    What is the venue for the Test?
    The first round will take place in your own school. No travel necessary! The second round for selected students will take place in a city from your region - students selected for the second round will be notified of the same.

    What are the prizes and awards for the Olympiad?
    The following awards and prizes are being offered by the Olympiad are:

    • Gold, silver and bronze awards for school toppers (for schools with 50 participants or more) 
    • Rs. 25,000 and merit certificate for students earning the first rank for in class 
    • Rs. 15,000 and merit certificate for students earning the second rank in each class 
    • Rs. 10,000 and merit certificate for students earning the third rank in each class 
    • Consolation awards
    • Best Principal Awards 
    • Best Teacher Awards
    How can you apply?

    Schools interested in participating may send an e-mail to olympiad@saevus.in or contact the Saevus office at022 – 25708580 to receive their registration forms.

    Schools must submit the completed registration forms by 15th September 2014.

    Registered schools will then receive a unique identification code from the Olympiad – to help during all communication thereafter. The Schools must then send us the class-wise list of students participating in the Olympiad. There is no upper or lower limit on the number of participants from each school.

    Enrolled students will then be given their roll numbers and digital admit cards which can be downloaded from the Olympiad website.

    The reference books will be shipped to the respective schools by the last week of September
