In order to encourage the voluntary sector, the Government of India, in 1979, started a scheme of giving ‘National Award for Child welfare’ to deserving institutions and individuals for their outstanding performance in the field of child development and welfare, this scheme was started, with a view to give recognition to such voluntary action.
NATURE OF AWARD:
i) The Award for every individual shall consist of Cash Prize of Rs. 1,00,000/- and a citation.
ii) The award to each institution shall consist a cash prize of Rs. 3,00,000/- and a citation.
FOR INSTITUTIONS:
Institution should be those that are not entirely Government funded. They could be Government aided or otherwise. Institutions should have been in the field of child welfare for some years and should have a good performance in the field.
FOR INDIVIDUALS:
The individuals to be selected from the award should have worked for the cause of children for some years. Paid officers of the institutions will not be eligible for selection. The sole basis of selection will be the quality of work performed by the individual for the cause of children and its significance of the cause.
Initially the selection will be made from amongst individuals and institutions in a State by a State Level Screening committee headed by Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary, Women and Child Development Department. For inviting applications from eligible individuals/ institutions, press notes are given in newspapers apart from district level publicity by the respective Deputy Commissioners. Application forms are available with the Programme Officers ( District Level ICDS cell )/ Deputy Commissioners free of cost.
