What is Narotam Sekhsaria Scholarship Programme 2016?

The Narotam Sekhsaria Foundation under its Scholarship Programme awards interest-free loan scholarships to Indian students with a consistently good academic record. The scholarship amount (upto a maximum of Rs. 20 lakhs) is decided as per the assessment of the Foundation.

The scholarships are awarded to students who wish to pursue their postgraduate studies in the fields of Pure Sciences, Applied Sciences, Social Sciences and Humanities, Law, Architecture and Management at prestigious Indian and international universities.

Who can apply for this scholarship ?

  • Indian nationals residing in India.
  • Students below 30 years of age.
  • Graduates of a recognised university (students in the final year of a degree course and those awaiting their results are  also eligible to apply).
  • Students having sought admission for a postgraduate degree programme at any prestigious university for the fall intake (Those who are awaiting a decision from a university are also eligible to apply. However, the award of the scholarship is subject to them securing admission)

How can you apply ?

  • Applications for the Narotam Sekhsaria Scholarships for Higher Studies are invited by the Foundation in the month of January for every academic year.
  • The mode of application is online.
  • The candidate is required to complete the registration online at Upon registration, the login credentials will be sent to the registered email ID. Once the registration is complete, an application fee of Rs. 500/- is  payable either online through Net Banking or offline by sending a Demand Draft issued in favour of the Narotam Sekhsaria Foundation.
  • On receiving the application fee, the candidate will be able to access the form online by logging in with the provided login credentials.
  • Completed application forms should be submitted before the closing date.
  • Only candidates shortlisted for the next round of the selection process are contacted by the Foundation.
  • They are required to produce duly certified supporting documents.
  • The next round of the selection process is the interview round, for which candidates are required to come down to the Foundation's office. 


When are the applications open?

The applications for the academic year 2016-17 are open between January 11, 2016 and March 28, 2016. All applications must be received by the Foundation by March 28, 2016

What are the eligibility criteria for the Postgraduate Scholarships?

To be eligible for the scholarship an applicant must:

  • Be an Indian national, residing in India
  • Be below 30 years of age as on January 31, 2016
  • Have at least one qualification at degree level
  • Could be in the final year of graduation or awaiting results
  • Have secured admission or awaiting admission to pursue postgraduate studies for the Fall-2016 semester ( Students who have applied and awaiting a decision from the university are also eligible to apply)

Can an applicant register with different email ids?

No, it is preferable to register with a single email id to allow us to interact better. Each registration costs Rs. 500, single registration is preferred.

Can the form be downloaded and sent by post?

Yes. The application form can be downloaded and sent by post. However, to get the downloadable form, registration needs to be done online. Only after online registration and payment of the application fee, one can download the form.

Is it mandatory to register in order to fill in the application form?

Yes, online registration is mandatory to proceed with the application.

Does one also attach documents with the application form?

No, documents are required to be attached at this stage. Only after the first level of screening shortlisted applicants will be asked to send attested copies of the following documents for verification along with a hand written essay on a topic that will be given by the Foundation.

In the course of filling the application form, can one make changes to the application form?

Yes. One does have the option of saving the application form and completing the application process later or making changes to the information entered. To use this option, you need to click on the Save button. However, once you submit your application, you will not be allowed to review your application.

Will it be possible to get a copy of the application form?

Yes. Once you submit the application form, you will receive an E-mail confirmation with the copy of the form. You can also use your log in credentials and view your completed application form. Student Log in remains active even after submitting the application form.

What are the documents required at the second stage of screening?

Only candidates shortlisted for the second stage will be required to produce the following documents:

  1. Attested copies of the mark sheets of Xth, XIIth, and all years of the under-graduation study
  2. Attested copies of score cards of any qualifying examination taken. (Eg. GRE, GMAT, CAT, GATE etc..)
  • Copy of the admission letter
  • Reference letters
  • Statement of course fee
  • Any other document indicating receipt of any other funding, fee waiver etc

What is the amount payable for the application process?

The application fee for the postgraduate scholarship programme is Rs. 500/-

What is the mode of payment?

The application fee is payable online using a debit/ credit card and netbanking. One can also issue a Demand Draft in favour of Narotam Sekhsaria Foundation and send the same to the Foundation’s office

When will the interviews be held?

The interviews will be held in the month of May-June 2016 in Mumbai.

How are the candidates informed?

Only shortlisted candidates are intimated about their selection. Due to high volume of application we regret our inability to respond individually to the candidates who have not been shortlisted.

In case an applicant can not travel to Mumbai for the interview, will it be possible to have a telephonic interview or a skype interview?

No. Every candidate shortlisted for the interview has to be present in person for the interview that is held only in Mumbai.

Are the candidates reimbursed for their travel and accommodation for the Scholarship Interviews?

No. The candidates are not reimbursed for their travel and accommodation for the Scholarship Interviews.

How do I save information across grids?

In order to save all the details entered one needs to click on the Save button. For tables where you have the option of entering multiple entries, one must click on Add New after every entry to Save the details entered.

Supporting Documents

  1. Mark sheets of Std. Xth, XIIth, and all years of the undergraduate programme and degree certificates.
  2. Score cards of any qualifying examination taken (Eg. GRE, GMAT, CAT, GATE etc).
  3. Copy of the admission letter(s) from the university, if obtained.
  4. Reference letters (in a sealed envelope).
  5. Statement of the course fee and any other financial document (this would include any other letter indicating the receipt of a scholarship, other source of funding, fee waiver etc).
  6. Attested copy of the passport.
  7. One passport size photograph.
  8. Latest Income Tax Returns of parents.

Selection Procedure for the Scholarship

All applications will be screened for shortlisting. Only shortlisted candidates will be informed between the months of April-May. It is mandatory for all the shortlisted candidates to attend a personal interview in Mumbai in the month of June.

Please note: The interview is the basis for final selection.

Post Selection Formalities

The Foundation announces the final list of scholars towards the end of June or first week of July.


It is mandatory for all the scholars to submit attested copies of the following documents within the timeline as decided by the Foundation:

  1. The letter confirming admission to the college/ university for the proposed course of study.
  2. I-20 in case of students admitted to the universities in the United States and a copy of the letter highlighting the financial support in case of students admitted to universities in other countries.
