The status of Women in India has undergone a lot of changes over the past few decades. They now participate in diverse fields such as politics, education, sports, media, social work, art and culture, service sector, bureaucracy, science and technology etc. In modern India, women have held high offices including that of the President, Prime Minister, Minister, Speaker of Lok Sabha, MPs, MLAs, Heads of multinational companies, Banks, PSUs etc. Many Indian women have surmounted enormous personal and social difficulties in transforming not only their own lives but also lives of people around them. Government of India & many other organisations have instituted various awards to highlight these Women Achievers of India. However, it is not always possible to award each and every woman achiever. Hence in the spirit of acknowledging and recognizing the contributions of more such women achievers, Ministry of Women & Child Development wishes to run a contest to select 100 women achievers of India through public nominations via social media. This will be a unique competition as such an initiative has not been done before by the Government and it involves public voting /endorsements/ likes etc.
