What is Ministry of Labour and Employment Pre and Post matric Scholarship 2017-18?

The Labor Welfare Organization under Union Ministry of Labor and Employment, has invited applications from children of Beedi Workers, Iron ore, Manganese Ore & Chrome Ore Mine (IOMC) workers, Limestone & Dolomite Mine (LSDM) workers and Cine workers studying in Government and recognized schools and Colleges for award of financial assistance for education at prescribed rates. The scholarship of up to INR 15000 is awarded to the wards of those workers who’ve put in at least 6 months of continuous service in their respective sectors.



Who can apply for this scholarship ?

  • In order to apply for this scholarship scheme, a candidate must fulfill the following eligibility criteria –

  • Candidate must be a ward of Beedi Workers, Iron ore, Manganese Ore & Chrome Ore Mine (IOMC) workers, Limestone & Dolomite Mine (LSDM) workers and Cine workers.
  • Total monthly Income of the Worker’s family from all sources should not exceed as under: -


Note: The Scholars pursuing studies through Correspondence are not eligible. Students who receive scholarship or stipend from any other source will not be granted under this Scheme. More than one children of the same worker also should furnish separate bank account number.

a) Beedi Workers - INR. 10,000/-

b) Mine Workers – INR 10,000/-

c) Cine workers – “An amount not exceeding INR. 8,000/- per month where such amount is paid monthly or an amount not exceeding INR. 1,00,000/- where it is paid by way of lump sum or instalments; as remuneration of a cine worker for the purpose of this Act.”

The Applicant must have passed the last qualifying examination in first attempt. Candidates for the award of scholarships should have taken regular admission for studies at recognized institutions in India in any course of general or technical education. The Educational Institute must be Government/Government Recognized Institute. The Scholar should have separate bank account. In case of Joint Account, the first name should be of the Scholar.

How can you apply ?

Steps to follow for online application –

Step 1- The students need to register through National Scholarship Portal.

Step 2- Existing users can login with their credentials; new users need to register themselves.

Step 3- Enter the Registration Details and fill the application form with academic details, personal details and save the form

Step 4- Upload the essential documents and submit the form

Terms and Conditions

Award details

  • From Classes I to IV (for purchase of dress/books etc.) INR 250 each for both girls and boys
  • From Classes V to VIII INR 940 for girls and INR 500 for boys
  • For Class IX INR 1140 for girls and INR 700 for boys
  • X INR 1840 for girls INR 1400 for boys
  • PUC, I & II INR 2440 for girls INR 2000 for boys
  • ITI INR10,000 for girls INR 10,000 for boys
  • Degree Course 3000 for girls INR 3000 for boys
  • Professional Courses (BE / MBBS / BSc. - Agri.) INR 15000 each to both boys and girls

If the scholarship discontinues his/her studies, the scholarship shall be stopped from the date of such discontinuance.

Documents required

List of documents required in support of your application form –

  • Photo
  • Copy of the Identity card of the worker (Form B Register Number in case of Mine workers).
  •  Copy of front page of Bank Pass Book or Cancelled Cheque (which should contain details of the account holder/beneficiary)
  • Passing Certificate/Mark Sheet of previous Academic Year
  • Income Certificate issued by the Revenue Authority
