- Selection will be done on the basis of:
- 1) Evaluation of online projects.
2) Performance and demonstration cum exhibition in visual arts and traditional crafts. - E project will contain research on the selected topic and documentation of its different aspects and will hold 30% weightage in performance.
- Before the performance, one member of the performing team shall introduce her/his team.
- Each team shall get only 2 minutes for introducing their performance, which is based on the online project.
Levels of Kala Utsav:
The following is suggested for selecting best teams at different levels:
District – This is the first level of Kala Utsav, where all schools can send their entries. (If appropriate and convenient, the State may opt to have Kala Utsav at the block or tehsil level.)
State/UT – Selected teams from district level will participate at this level.
National – This is the final level of Kala Utsav where the best of the entries from State/UTs/KVS/NVS will showcase their talent.

The theme of Kala Utsav 2017 is 'Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat (Living Tradition of Arts – Tribal, Folk and Traditional Art Forms)'.
All art forms in Kala Utsav-2017-18 should reflect traditional art forms of India.

Online Art Project
Online art project is an important part of Kala Utsav entry from States/UTs/KVS/NVS to the National Level. The documentation should include the following:
(i) History
- origin
- communities involved
- special occasions
- costumes
- its relation with the environment, etc.
(ii) Documenting the facts
(during their field visit to the community or from other sources):
- taking photographs
- audios and videos of the community performing this art form
- taking from the internet, newspapers, magazines, archives, libraries etc.
- interviews with artists/ artisans and the community involved.
(iii) Documenting the process of practising living traditions for Kala Utsav
- taking selfies
- photographs
- audios/videos of the rehearsals
- self-interviews and interviews of the teachers/facilitators involved in the process (please avoid long coverage of teachers and authorities)
- views of the team on how the particular living tradition can be encouraged further, etc.
- duration of the film/video on online projects should be minimum 6 minutes and maximum 8 minutes.
(iv) Write-up: The holistic view of the particular living tradition by the team in 500 words.
