Applications are invited for John S. Knight Journalism Fellowships at Stanford University for the academic year 2017-18. The fellowship is especially for the person belonging to journalism community and is organized by "John S. and James L. Knight Foundation". Like every year, this year also they will select 20 fellows across the world for 10 months of fellowship programme, where the fellows will learn and collaborate to transform journalism. All the fellows will receive financial support which ranges from $100,00 to $143,000.

    How can you apply?

    The application can be done online with following steps:

    Step 1: Read all the points given in "Become a fellow, Who can be a fellow, Benefits of a fellowship" section.

    Step 2: Visit Applying for this Fellowship and click "Learn more and apply" button.

    Step 3: Use only first and the last name for registering. (Don't provide your middle name).

    Step 4: A link will be sent to your email account, click the link to verify your email.

    Step 5: Log in and click on get started to begin your application process.

    Step 6: You have to answer some questions related to you and your professional experience (Journalism as a career).

    Step 7: Fill the application form, upload your resume.

    Step 8: Upload a one-minute video of yours to describe why this fellowship is important for you.

    Step 9: You have to submit 3 recommendation letters from the person who knows you and your work.

    Step 10: You may also submit your samples of work as a journalist.

Terms and Conditions

Terms and conditions:

  • Spend the academic terms in residence at Stanford from September to June: Vacation breaks during December and March.
  • Participate fully in JSK fellowships activities: You have to attend all JSK Fellowships events, workshops, and activities.
  • Commit yourself to the fellowship rather than to regular professional work: If selected, your full-time job is to be a JSK Fellow. i.e you have to leave your job or freelance/consulting commitments.
  • Focus on your fellowship proposal throughout the year: In addition to the events and some classes at Stanford, you have to work on a challenge which journalism is facing.
  • Share your fellowship: Be ready to share publicly your fellowship experiences, work and insights you’ve gained through the year, and the fruits of your efforts near the end of the program year.
