Q1: For whom the J.C. Bose Fellowship is meant?A1: The J.C. Bose Fellowship is meant to recognize active scientists and engineers for their outstanding performance and contributions. The fellowships are scientist-specific and very selective.
Q2: What is the nature of support the J.C. Bose Fellow is entitled to?A2: The J.C. Bose Fellow is entitled to a Fellowship of Rs.25,000/- per month and in addition a Research Grant of Rs.10.00 Lakh per annum.

Q4: How does a J.C. Bose Fellow get his subsequent Grant?A4: The Grant for the subsequent year are released only after receiving financially year wise Statement of Expenditure (SE) and Utilization Certificate (UC) in the prescribed format (available in the website). Financial year wise SE and UC are from 01st April to 31st March. And for the first year it would be from the Date of Start (DOS) to 31st March and subsequently from 01st April to 31st March.
Q5: When can a person apply for the J.C. Bose Fellowship? What is the last date of acceptance of the application?A5: The applications for the J.C. Bose Fellowship is accepted throughout the year and there is no last date of submission of the application.
Q6: What are the area covered under J.C. Bose Fellowship?A6: All Areas of Science (in the broadest terms) are covered by this Fellowship.
Q7: What are the eligibility criteria for applying for J.C. Bose Fellowship?A7: Following are the eligibility criteria for applying for J.C. Bose Fellowship: 1. The fellowship is open to Indian Nationals residing in India, with upper age limit of 68 years for completion of fellowship. 2. The applicant should possess a higher degree or equivalent: namely Ph.D. in Science/Engineering, Masters in Engineering or Technology/MD in Medicine, etc. and must have carried out several years of work in the specific area. 3. These Fellowships are meant for those who have a proven track-record as evident from their research publications and recognitions. 4. The candidate must have a regular position in an Institute /Organization and should be engaged in research. If he /she is availing any other fellowship, he/she will have to opt for only one of the fellowships.
Q8: What is the duration of the J.C. Bose Fellowship?A8: The J.C. Bose Fellowship duration is for 5 years.
Q9: When and how can the individual start his J.C. Bose Fellowship?A9: A letter is sent by the Science & Engineering Research Board to the Individual as well as to the host Institute informing the award of J.C. Bose Fellowship. After this the Individual has to sent his Acceptance Letter indicating the Month when he wants to start the Fellowship, and then the Institute will forward his Acceptance Letter to the Science & Engineering Research Board. Based on this letter the Department will process the case for getting the administrative and financial approvals and then a Sanction Order is issued to the Host Institute (and a copy to the J.C. Bose Fellow) and a copy is marked to the Drawing and Disbursing Officer, SERB for disbursing the grant under J.C. Bose Fellowship. When the grant money is received by the Host Institute, the J.C. Bose Fellow can start his Fellowship.
Q10: Can a person change the host institute after getting J.C. Bose Fellowship?A10: A person can change the host institute after getting J.C. Bose Fellowship. He has to get NOCs from both the Institutes and final financial papers from old institute.
