The Indo-Australian Career Boosting Gold Fellowships (IACBG-Fellowships) is organised by the Government of India, Department of Biotechnology, with support from the Australian Government, Australia, through the Department of Industry, Innovation, Climate Change, Science, Research and Tertiary Education.

The Government of India will fund ten (10) researchers from India for this program which support fellows undertake a collaborative research project at a leading science institute or university in the Australia for a period of 24
months, commencing in 2016.

Priority will be given to project related to following topics:

  • Agricultural Biotechnology
  • abiotic and biotic stress tolerance in crops
  • crop improvement for nutrition and biomaterials
  • germplasm sources for adaptability to climate extremes
  • disease resistance
  • biofuels
  • Medical Biotechnology
  • bioresourcing of novel antimicrobials from natural resources
  • developing novel & improved vaccines delivery platforms
  • diagnostics - affordable and rapid diagnostics for genetic and infectious diseases
  • drug discovery and delivery system
  • biomedical devices & implants for therapeutic applications.
  • stem cells/regenerative medicines.

    Eligibility
    1. This is open to all Indian researchers who currently employed on a full time basis (need not be a permanent employee) but have not accrued more than five years being awarded their PhD.
    2. Eligible applicants includes:
      • Indian Government agency, statutory body or government owned corporation;
      • Indian based university, institute, or other national research organisation;
      • Indian private sector research and development organisation.
      • Age should not exceed 35 years.
    3. Unsuccessful applicants can re-apply in subsequent rounds.
    4. The decision of the IACBG-Fellowships Secretariat will be final.
    How can you apply?

    The application must be submitted by email and by post

    • one unbound, single-sided original copy which should only be clipped and not stapled
    • Five spiral bound copies
    • soft copy as a Microsoft Word file by email

    The Government of India through the Department of Biotechnology will use the information supplied in this application for the purposes of assessing and ranking applications and deciding Fellowship recipients. Successful applicants’ names and Fellowship-related activities may also be used to promote the IACBG-Fellowships in the future.

Terms and Conditions

Terms and conditions:

  1. Fellow does not return to India, after training as normally expected
  2. Takes up a job abroad on completion of the Fellowship;
  3. Fellow fails to complete the Fellowship term;
  4. Fellow fails to serve his/her parent institution or any other institution in India engaged in biotechnology research activities for a minimum period of three years after his return from Fellowship;
  5. Any other condition prescribed by DBT from time to time.
