About The Program

Honda Y-E-S Award 2016 is awarded to those students who can drive society towards an environment friendly orientattion. Application are accepted once in a year. The student who are talented in the area of Science and technology grabs the award. The grant is awarded in two stages. 

EligibilityDeadline Date: Closed
  • Student of one of the affiliated IITs (IIT BHU, IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras, IIT Roorkee)
  • A student of the Fifth semester.
  • Aggregate CGPA over & above 7.00 by the end of semester IV
  • Have cleared the first four semester without any backlogs

Benefits 
Stage I : The Y-E-S Award

  • The Award would recognise brilliant students who would drive future society towards an ecotechnological orientation.
  • Each Y-E-S Award recipient will receive US$ 3,000 (US Dollar Three Thousand only) in equivalent Indian Rupees. 

Stage II: Y-E-S Award Plus
Every Y-E-S Award recipient becomes eligible for the Y-E-S Award Plus, an additional award, if, within three years after he/she received the Y-E-S Award prize, he/she is admitted to, and pledges to attend within one year after admission, either of the following:

  • A credit-granting internship program offered by a Japanese company or research institute's summer program for two and half months. Internship participants will receive US$7,000 (US Dollar Seven Thousand only) or equivalent Indian Rupees as the Y-E-S Award Plus.
  • A masters or doctoral course at a Japanese graduate school. These students will receive US$10,000 (US Dollar Ten Thousand only) or equivalent Indian Rupees as the Y-E-S Award Plus.

What is Y-E-S Award and what are its goals?
Young Engineer's and Scientist Award (Y-E-S Award) is an independent programme supported by Honda Foundation Japan. It has been started to strengthen Japanese ties with India through provision of financial aid to young Indian researchers and engineers to encourage specialized study in Eco technology as well as provide an opportunity to acquire higher professional education in Japan.

How & when a person can apply for Y-E-S award?

  1. Candidate should be a student of Indian Institute of Technology, registered in a four year B.Tech or five year dual degree (M.Tech.) Programme. 
  2. For the year 2016-2017, this program is being offered to students of IIT BHU, IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras, IIT Roorkee, IIT Guwahati and IIT Kanpur only. 
  3. Candidate must be a student of 5th semester having CGPA of 7.00 & above in each respective four semesters.
  4. Applications will be open from 01 August to 31 August 2016.

Is there any application fee I need to pay?
No, the application is free.

Can I download the application form or fill it online?
You may apply online, by registering yourself on this website. However, the form cannot be downloaded.

Can people from all IIT’s apply for this scholarship?
No, only IIT Bombay, Delhi, Kharagpur, Madras, Roorkee, Guwahati, Kanpur and BHU student can apply for this scholarship.

Is this scholarship applicable to students pursing 5 yr. integrated M.Sc. or 5 yr. integrated MBA from the selected IITs?
No, this program is open only to students enrolled in the 5th semester of B.Tech or 5 yr. Dual Degree M.tech Programs of Eligible Courses in Affiliated IIT's.

How the Y-E-S Award is different from other Scholarships?
Y-E-S Award is a two-tier programme. The first stage is of cash award of US $ 3000, and in the second stage of the programme the awardee will get 7000 USDfor undertaking a short term internship in a Japanese company or for pursuing a Masters or Doctoral programme in a recognized Japanese UniversityUS $10,000 can be awarded.

Is this award being offered in other countries also?
The program has been introduced in Vietnam in 2006, India in 2007, Laos & Cambodia in 2008 and extended to Myanmar in 2014.

What are the selection criteria for Y-E-S Award?
The shortlisting process is based on academic excellence, co-curricular activities , ecotechnology or intention to work and on the spot essay; further, short listed candidates will go through a personal interview for the final selection.

Can I apply again if I don't get selected for the fellowship in the first try?
No, only one chance will be given to each applicant.
