Description

Google (01000111 01101111 01101111 01100111 01101100 01100101) presents the 2014 edition of Code to Learn contest.  We welcome students from classes 5 to 10 to show off their programming skills
 

  • Think of a story, a game, a music show, a cartoon or a completely different project - ‘Your creativity is the limit’.
     
  • Create it using Scratch - a fun programming language created by the MIT Media Lab.
     
  • Students from classes 7 to 10 can also use MIT App Inventor, Javascript or Python to create their project. 
     
  • You have up to 15-August-2015 to create your project.
     
  • Submit it on this website.
     
  • Win cool prizes.

Eligibility

 

The contest is open to all students in classes 5 to 10 enrolled at any school in India. The students will compete in three class groups:

  • Classes 5 & 6

  • Classes 7 & 8

  • Classes 9 & 10

 

Note: Employees, interns, contractors, and official office-holders, as well as their immediate families, of Google, its affiliates, and any representatives or agencies of Google or other persons professionally connected with the contest are not eligible to participate.

How to apply?

 

Submission process

 

You will have to upload+share your Scratch or App Inventor project with us on Google Drive. 

How to download projects

There is no download needed for Scratch 1.0 or App Inventor Classic since the projects are created on your computer itself.

For Scratch 2
In the Scratch Project Editor, click on File->Download to your computer. This will download the project file to your computer.

For App Inventor 2
Follow the instructions on this page to download your project file. Remember to download the .aia file and not .apk. We will not be able to see your code if you share the .apk file.

How to upload and share

  • Go to http://drive.google.com. Create a new folder on your Google Drive.
  • Upload your project's file into the newly created folder.
  • Once upload is done, share the folder with code2learn@google.com. This page has instructions on how to share a file or folder from Google Drive.
  • Paste the URL of your Google Drive shared folder below. The URL will look something like https://drive.google.com/#folders/0011AABBCC5566 (the last set of letters and numbers will be different for your folder).

More Information

Project submissions are now open. Please follow the instructions given below depending on which type of project needs to be submitted.

 

 

For Scratch Projects 

 

Projects can be shared from the Scratch website itself.

  • Remember to create an account on the Scratch website. Go to http://scratch.mit.edu and click on "Join Scratch" in the top-right corner.
  • Once you create your project, it will be visible under "My Stuff" on the Scratch website. The direct link is http://scratch.mit.edu/mystuff.
  • Click on "Share" next to the project you want to submit for the contest.
  • Your project will now have a public URL. For example http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/10001000 (the last set of numbers will be different for your project).
  • Click to fill up the contest submission form. Paste the public URL of your project in the relevant place in the submission form.

 

For App Inventor Projects

 

You will have to download the code for your App Inventor project and upload+share it with us on Google Drive. 

  • Follow the instructions on page to download your project file. Remember to download the .aia file and not .apk. We will not be able to see your code if you share the .apk file.
  • Go to http://drive.google.com. Create a new folder on your Google Drive.
  • Upload your project's .aia file into the newly created folder.
  • Once upload is done, share the folder with code2learn@google.com. This page has instructions on how to share a file or folder from Google Drive.
