About The Program

Recipients of the Google Anita Borg Scholarship: Asia Pacific will receive a scholarship amount specific to their local region in respect to tuition. A group of female undergraduate and graduate students will be chosen from the applicant pool across Australia, China Mainland, Hong Kong, Taiwan, New Zealand, Japan, Korea, Southeast Asia and India. Scholarships will be awarded based on the strength of each candidate's academic background and demonstrated leadership. All scholarship recipients will be invited to attend the annual Google scholars’ retreat in the Google Hyderbaad office from August 30th to September 2nd 2016. As an Anita Borg Scholar, you will participate in a unique program that includes professional development as well as outreach in your community which kicks-off at the Scholars Retreat in summer 2016.

To be eligible to apply, applicants must:

  • Be a female student enrolled in undergraduate or postgraduate study in the 2016 academic year.
  • Be enrolled in a university in Asia Pacific. Citizens, permanent residents, and international students are eligible to apply.
  • Be majoring in computer science, computer engineering, or a closely related technical field.
  • Exemplify leadership and demonstrate passion for increasing the involvement of women in computer science.

How can you apply?

Application can be done online only.

  • General background information (includes contact information and information about your current and intended academic for the 2016-2017 school year).
  • Current resume (Submit in the language you feel most comfortable with)
  • Academic transcripts from your current university (and prior institution if currently in graduate school).
  • Responses to three essay questions (Submit in the language you feel most comfortable with)
Terms and Conditions

The Google Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship award must be spent on tuition, fees, books, supplies and equipment required for the students' classes at their primary university. Scholarship recipients must be enrolled as full time students for the 2016 academic year. Enrollment will be verified after the winners are selected, and all scholarship payments will be made directly to the student to be used towards tuition and education-related expenses. We will withhold the award for any scholar who no longer meets the eligibility requirements. Current Google employees are not eligible to apply for Google scholarships. Persons who are (1) residents of embargoed countries, (2) ordinarily resident in embargoed countries, or (3) otherwise prohibited by applicable export controls and sanctions programs may not apply for this scholarship. Google may retain anonymized versions of application submissions as a reference for future scholarship review.

How do I apply?

You will need to submit an online application for the scholarship by clicking on the ‘Apply Now’ button on the top left corner. Please note that the Application deadline is May 8th, 2016.

You will also be asked to submit electronic versions of your resume, essay responses and transcripts. Please scan your transcripts and resume into an electronic format (PDF format preferred for all requested documents).

Can international students apply for the scholarship?

Yes. If you are currently studying at a university in Asia Pacific and meet our criteria for scholarship eligibility, you can apply regardless of your citizenship. Persons who are (1) residents of embargoed countries, (2) ordinarily residents in embargoed countries, or (3) otherwise prohibited by applicable export controls and sanctions programs may not participate in the scholarship.

Google also offer the Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship for women studying in AfricaCanada,EuropeMiddle East, and the United States.

Do I need to submit an official copy of transcripts?

Yes, all applicants are required to provide a soft-copy of official transcripts via the online application. If you cannot obtain an official transcript from your school before the deadline, you may submit an unofficial transcript. However, we will require all finalists to provide an official transcript at a later date.

Please note: You are only required to submit your current degree transcripts.

What characterizes an official copy of transcripts?

Official transcripts are documents that are authorized and issued by your university and demonstrate your academic performance. The official transcript should include an account of your grades and an explanation of the grading scale at your university.

How can I provide an English translation of my transcripts when my University does not issue English transcripts?

Upload the original, non-English transcripts as well as your English translation of your transcripts. Please have your translation confirmed by an official authority of the university.

Who can apply for the scholarship?

This scholarship is dedicated to supporting those who identify as female in Computer Science or a closely-related technical field. For more information on our other scholarship programs, please visitwww.google.com/edu/scholarships

How do I apply for an internship?

Please note that the Google Anita Borg Scholarship does not include an internship with Google.

If you are interested in internship opportunities at Google, please check the box on the online application to indicate that you are interested in opportunities at Google. A Google representative will contact you if you are selected to move forward in the internship application process.

I’m pursuing my bachelors/postgraduate degree at a polytechnic or institute of technology. Although it is not called an university, am I still eligible to apply?

If you're studying at a polytechnic or institute of technology and it awards you a university-equivalent, three-year, bachelor's or postgraduate degree, you are welcome to apply, if you meet the other eligibility criteria.

If I am selected, how will my funds be distributed to me?

Google will distribute the scholarship funds directly to you for use towards tuition and education-related expenses.
