Commonwealth Scholarship Commission, UK invites applications for Commonwealth Split-site PhD Scholarships 2020 from PhD students of low and middle-income Commonwealth countries. The aim of this scholarship is to provide opportunities to PhD students for conducting research. Selected scholars will spend up to 12 months at a UK university as part of their doctoral studies in their home country.

DeadlineClosed Eligibility To be eligible, an applicant must:
- Be a permanent resident of an eligible Commonwealth country
- Be registered for a PhD at a university in an eligible Commonwealth country by the time the scholarship is confirmed (September 2020)
- Be available to start academic studies in the UK by the start of the UK academic year in September/October 2020
- Be unable to afford to study in the UK without this scholarship
- Hold a first degree of at least upper second class (2:1) honours or a second class degree (2:2) and a relevant postgraduate qualification
Benefits - Round-trip airfare
- Tuition fees
- Monthly stipend of up to GBP 1,362
- Warm clothing allowance (if applicable)
- Study travel grants
- Child allowances for widowed, divorced, or single parents (GBP 476 per month for the first child, and GBP 117 per month for the second and third child under 16 years)
Documents - Proof of citizenship or refugee status such as a valid passport (or national ID card)
- Full transcripts detailing all higher education qualifications
- Supporting statement from the supervisor at home country university
- Supporting statement from the proposed supervisor at a UK university
- Reference from at least one other individual

Selection Criteria
Selections of applicants will be based on the following factors:
- Academic merit
- Quality of the research proposal
- The potential impact on the development of the candidate's home country

Terms and Conditions
- Awards are tenable for a 12 month period of study at any approved UK university or higher education institution with which the CSC has a part funding agreement (as mentioned previously) for a specific programme of research.
- Split-site Scholarships are intended to provide access to specific expertise or equipment that would not otherwise be available in applicants’ home countries.
- The CSC will make the final decision on institution of study and reserves the right to overrule any preferences indicated by the candidate.
- These scholarships are offered under six themes:
- Science and technology for development
- Strengthening health systems and capacity
- Promoting global prosperity
- Strengthening global peace, security and governance
- Strengthening resilience and response to crises
- Access, inclusion and opportunity
- The students are required to study at a UK university which has a part-funding agreement with CSC.
