What is Acumen India Fellows Program 2016?

Acumen India Fellows Program is a one-year leadership development program designed to build the next generation of social leaders with the audacity to transform society and create a better, more inclusive world.

The program equips 20 extraordinary individuals from across India with the knowledge, support system and practical wisdom to unlock their full potential and drive positive change in society. Over the course of a year, Fellows remain in their jobs while taking part in five week-long seminars, where they receive the tools, training and space to innovate new ideas, accelerate their impact, build a strong network of social leaders from across their region and around the world.

Who can apply for this scholarship ?

Applications for the Global Fellowship are highly competitive. While our Fellows have diverse backgrounds and each brings a unique skill set to the Fellowship, we have identified some key traits:

  • Demonstrated passion and commitment to creating positive social change
  • Proven track record of collaborative leadership and management responsibilities
  • Experience living and working in emerging markets
  • Grit, courage, and perseverance
  • A minimum of 4 years work experience
  • Strong business experience

Q. What is the purpose of the Acumen Fellows Programs?

A. The purpose of the Acumen Fellows Programs is to develop a community of leaders who challenge the status quo, work across lines of difference, and inspire their communities to believe in a brighter future.

Q. Does the Fellows Program provide scholarships or funding?

A. No. While all costs associated with participating in the program are covered (such as travel and accommodations), we do not provide scholarships, stipends or funding. If you are interested in learning more about Acumen’s investment criteria and how to apply for investment, click here.

Q. Does participation in the Fellows Program qualify me to receive investment or grant funding from Acumen?

A. No. Acumen’s leadership development programs are run separately from our investment activities.

Q. Do I have to be working in a social enterprise to be considered for the Fellowship?

A. No. Though the many of our Fellows work in social enterprise, Fellows can be working in any sector (forprofit, non-profit, social enterprise, government).

Q. Is the program only open to entrepreneurs?

A. No. Fellows can be entrepreneurs who started their own organizations or leaders influencing change within an existing organization. We are looking for an entrepreneurial attitude, mind-set and approach – people who don’t accept the status quo.

Q. What are the academic qualifications for the program?

A. There are no specific academic prerequisites. However, Fellows must be able to fully participate in a program that is conducted in English.

Q. Do I have to be from the region to which I’m applying (e.g. India to apply to the India Fellows Program)?

A. Yes. We consider applications from citizens of the country/region. We will also, on an exceptional basis, consider applicants who demonstrate a concrete connection (i.e. long-term employment, residency, focus of social change project).

Q. Are there minimum or maximum age requirements for Fellows?

 A. No. There is neither a minimum age requirement, nor a maximum age cut off.

Terms and Conditions

Ideal applicants will meet the following criteria:

  1. Currently engaged in social change work. Social change work refers to any project, initiative, program or organization that furthers Acumen’s mission of changing the way the world tackles poverty.
  2. Entrepreneurs who started their own organizations or leaders influencing change within an existing organization. We are looking for an entrepreneurial attitude, mind-set and approach – people who don’t accept the status quo.
  3. Can be any age or education level, but must be able to fully participate in a program that is conducted in English.
  4. Must come from the region of the program you are applying. Pakistan Fellows must be from Pakistan, India Fellows must be from India, and East Africa Fellows must be from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Ethiopia or South Sudan.
  5. Must demonstrate strong personal integrity, unrelenting perseverance, and moral imagination.
  6. Must be ready and willing to undergo an intensive year-long personal transformation and leadership journey
