The American Society of Human Genetics (ASHG) invites applications for 12th Annual DNA Day Essay Contest 2017 which falls on the 25th April of every year. It is applicable for all the science students who are studying in 9 to 12 standard class across the nation. The essay should be 750 words.
In the year 1990, gene therapy was greeted as a possible cure for genetic diseases and conditions but problems arose during clinical trials like the death of a patient due to a fatal immune reaction which forced scientists to re-think their strategies.So the program has selected the topic of the essay for 2017 as a recent discovery which is done in the field of gene therapy and how gene therapy has expanded beyond the concept of providing an additional, functional copy of a malfunctioning gene to specific cells.
Candidates have to choose one example of gene therapy after 2005, describing the disease and cure which researchers are attempting to treat and explain how this approach is repairing the main cause of the disease.
Students of class 9 to 12 across the country are eligible to apply.

A. Once the students have written anessay on the given topic, they need to submit their essays to their respective class teacher. The teacher will check for the duplicacy in your essay writing and will submit the top 6 essays in each of the class. The candidate must have a reference. Winners from 2013-2016 are not eligible to apply.
