To take the education sector in the country to new heights, Union Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar on January 24, 2018 said that there will be an increase in the number of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) in 2018-19 budget with over 65 JNVs in new districts.

"The Modi government's effort is an expansion of quality education. ... We have granted 65 Navodaya Vidyalayas (for this year) and in the budget 2018, it will increase further," Javadekar said.

With the objective to bring our rural talents, JNVs are being set up under the central scheme since 1986 and so far JNVs are there in more than 638 districts across the country.

Being run by an autonomous organisation called the Navodaya Vidyalayas Samiti (NVS), INR 2,700 crore budget allocation was provided for JNVs for the 2017-18 fiscal and INR 46,356.25 crore budget allocation was made for the MHRD for the current fiscal.

Saying that his government tries to improve the quality of education in the country, he said it has been found out that in parts of the country there is either digital or education divide.

“For instance, there are maximum colleges in Bengaluru, Karnataka and also in Tamil Nadu, but less in states like Jharkhand and Bihar,” the minister said, adding, “Expect something good in the budget because we want to expand quality education in all corners of the nation."
