Swachh Bharat Summer Internship: MHRD invites application; portal to be launched on April 25

With the objective to engage college students with Swachhata (sanitation) work in villages during summer vacation, the Union Ministry fo Human Resource Development invited applications from eligible candidates for Swachh Bharat Summer Internship (SBSI) programme 2018.

Interested students can apply on the official website – sbsi.mygov.in -- which will be launched on April 25. The internship is available only for students from the higher education institutes.

According to MHRD guidelines, those higher education institutes have also been directed to appoint an officer to guide students throughout the internship programme. However, the guidelines for the internship are being formulated in consultation with the Department of Higher Education.

As part of the summer internship programme, students will have to adopt one or more villages and do activities such as shramdaan, creation of sanitation infrastructure, system building, behavior change campaigns and other IEC initiatives in and around nearby villages to contribute to the cause of rural sanitation in India.

The total duration of the internship programme will be at least 100 hours from May 1 to July 31, 2018. Selected interns will have to submit an Internship Report in the prescribed format to the supervisor within 15 days of completion of fieldwork. At the conclusion of the internship, the best interns would be identified at college, university, state and national levels.

After successful completion of the programme, every intern will receive a certificate of from the Swachh Bharat Mission.

The University Grants Commission has agreed to provide 2 credit points as an ‘elective’ under the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) to students in Higher Educational Institutions who would be undertaking and completing the SBSI.
