Students appearing for Class X and Class XI board examinations, here comes a good news for you! The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE) has on Monday taken a decision to reduce the pass marks for ICSE or Class X and ISC or Class XI board examination.

According to a notification from the CICSE, the pass percentage for ICSE has been reduced from 35 per cent to 33 per cent and for Classes XI and XII, it has been reduced from 40 percentage points to 35 percentage points.

The changes will come into effect from the year 2018-19.

“The objective of this is to bring about close uniformity with other boards in the country,” Gerry Arathoon, chief executive and secretary of the CICSE said in the notification.

The decision was taken after a number of meetings with the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) along with other examination boards, Inter Board Working Group (IBWG) that recommended that all boards should have equal passing marks.

“Among the many recommendations made by the Inter Board Working Group (IBWG), it was suggested that all the boards in the country should have the same pass mark criteria. In view of this the council has decided to change its pass mark criteria,” Arathoon said in the notification.

The circular also advised the schools to implement the pass marks criteria in their internal examinations as well from the academic year 2018-19 onwards.
