Bestowed with many reputed institutes of higher education such as Jadavpur University, Presidency College, Indian Institute of Management Calcutta, Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, West Bengal is surely a favourite destination of education for many students.

The state also has many other well-known educational institutes such as Bengal Engineering and Science University, Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Kolkata, National Institute of Technology, Durgapur, Indian Statistical Institute and Visva-Bharati University.

With literacy rate of 77.9%, West Bengal has always played a crucial role in the development of education sector in the country.

To further improve the educational scenario in the state, the Central and the state government have announced a number of scholarships for students residing and willing to pursue their education in this place. Here, we have prepared a list of scholarships for students of West Bengal.

Hindi Scholarship Scheme, West Bengal

Department of Higher Education, Science and Technology and Biotechnology, Government of West Bengal has launched this scholarships for students of West Bengal studying in higher secondary, graduation, post-graduation and research level (M.Phill, Ph.D. or M Litt. etc). Students who have passed the madhyamik, higher secondary, graduation, post-graduation or any other equivalent degree are eligible for the scholarship. The scholarship covers variable awards.

West Bengal Post-Matric Scholarship for SC/ST/OBC

This scholarship is designed with the objective to provide financial assistance to SC/ST/OBC students studying in post matriculation or post-secondary level to enable them to complete their education. Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India has announced the Post-Matric Scholarship to SC/ST/OBC for students of West Bengal under Backward Classes Welfare Department. Students of standard 11, 12, graduates and post graduate level are eligible for this scholarship. This scholarship offers lucrative awards.

Bigyani Kanya Medha Britti Scholarship, West Bengal

This scholarship invites applications from girl students who have passed Class 12 from any Board and studying Basic Science/Medicine/ Engineering in any institute of West Bengal. The objective of this program is to promote girl’s higher education. The girl students residing in West Bengal are eligible to apply for this scholarship. The selected students will receive INR 2000 pm, annual book grant of INR 2000 for up to 5 years.

West Bengal Pre-Martic Scholarship for SC ST Students

The Backward Classes Welfare Department, Government of West Bengal has launched this centrally sponsored Pre-Matric Scholarship for SC and ST students studying in Class 9 and 10. The scheme is implemented by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India. Students whose parent’s/guardian’s income from all sources is not more than INR 2 lakhs per annum are eligible to apply for this scholarship. The scholarship offers decent rewards.

Post Graduate Merit Scholarship for University Rank Holders 2018

The University Grants Commission under the MHRD scheme invites applications for the Post Graduate Merit Scholarship for University Rank Holders 2018 from the first and second rank holders of an undergraduate level and enrolled in any postgraduate course. Students who have done under graduate course in Life Sciences Physical Sciences Chemical Sciences, Earth Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, Social Sciences, Commerce, Languages are eligible to apply. The scholarship offers INR 3100 p.m for two years for two years.

PG Scholarships for Professional Courses for SC/ST 2017-18

University Grants Commission (UGC) invites applications for PG Scholarships for Professional Courses for SC/ST 2017-18 from candidates pursuing a postgraduate course in professional subjects. Students who have obtained a graduate degree or have got admission at postgraduate level to study a full-time course in any of the professional subjects are eligible to apply. The scholarship offers INR 7800 per month and contingency up to INR 15000 per annum.
